Overview

Conditioning of surface, ground, or produced source water — TSS, iron, manganese, bacteria, and scaling species removed for frac fluid compatibility.

02

Challenge

Modern hydraulic fracturing operations require massive volumes of water — 5–20 million gallons per well — typically sourced from surface water (rivers, ponds), groundwater aquifers, and municipal supplies. Source water quality varies widely and must be conditioned for frac fluid compatibility before blending with chemicals.

WFS Solution

WFS frac water conditioning systems remove TSS, iron, manganese, bacteria, and scaling species from source water to ensure compatibility with frac chemicals (biocides, friction reducers, scale inhibitors). Mobile surface water treatment units can be deployed directly to impoundments or freshwater tanks at the wellsite.

Technologies Applied

  • Surface Water Intake Screens
  • Coagulation / Flocculation / DAF
  • Iron & Manganese Removal
  • UV / Ozone Disinfection
  • Microfiltration Polishing
  • Chemical Compatibility Analysis
04

Outcomes

  • Frac chemical performance optimization
  • Iron <0.1 mg/L to prevent friction reducer fouling
  • Bacterial kill >99.99% (4-log)
  • Source water flexibility — surface, ground, or produced
